Unveiling of the Whimsical Collection at the AmericasMart

The Whimsical Collection is a new line the Jacaranda Living team will be unveiling this week in Atlanta, Georgia at the AmericasMart! The team is most excited about their new Whimsical collection, which consists of the Wildlife at Leisure tote bags, beach bags, pillows and more. The Whimsical line has been a big hit for the team as it has in the past consisted of various pieces that are conversation starters – from Julia Baille’s funny guest towels of men and women playing golf or sunbathing to sleepy elephants on pillows next to airplanes. It is a different collection, unique to the brand’s more elevated aesthetic that consists of elegant white linens and it is very exciting to see the company being brought back to its African roots.

Cathy’s Recent Visit to South Africa and the Ladies Who Embroider for Us

Living our Mission for South Africa and Beyond

The mission of Jacaranda Living is as follows:

To produce beautiful quality linens and gifts made by talented people around the world, whose personal circumstances are less fortunate than ours.

Cathy recently traveled to South Africa for a visit.  While there, she stopped in to the studio to visit the women who embroider products featured in our catalog. The workspace is more of a studio than a factory. The women have comfort, safety, and based on the comments Zandile made in this video, they enjoy their work. In fact, Zandile travels three hours each way to come to work embroidering and constructing the pretty boudoir and baby pillow covers that we sell.

Where is Kwazulu-Natal?

According to Wikipedia, Kwazulu-Natal is known as “the garden province.” It was created in 1994 and borders the Indian ocean. The area faces issues with evictions and political controversy, and also has the highest rate of HIV infection at 39%.

As our About Us page states, founders Cathy and Martin Deale were born and grew up in the Kwazulu Natal region. Cathy had a passion for fine linens and needlework. This resulted in her wanting to help the people of this area of South Africa. She recognized the high quality of their workmanship, but also saw the challenges they faced; both economically and in their every day lives.  Because of this, she looked for a way to expand the market horizons for these individuals by bringing their work to Boston and founding Jacaranda Living.

Cathy visiting with the ladies in South Africa

From those humble beginnings, the company has been able to expand its product mix. They now offer  items made by groups from Africa and around the world living under similar circumstances. Subsequently, Jacaranda Living has added items made by women from other regions of Africa as well as India and China.

Cathy, Martin and the Jacaranda Living team are committed to supporting their customers. Visit the website and explore the beautiful items offered. We think you’ll agree they’re perfect as gifts for you and your family.

Jacaranda Living Expands Its Spring 2014 Lines adding New Bath Linen Designs and Cotton Sleepwear in Shorter Styles

As a leader in the industry of fine linens and embroidery, Jacaranda Living is launching its popular nightgowns in shorter lengths and new styles.  The family-owned company has been showcasing its unique brand of refreshing simplicity and elegance during an expanded gift show schedule.

With more than 10 years of experience in handmade and embroidered linens, Jacaranda Living is releasing new cotton nightgowns in fresh and flirty lengths this spring and summer.   The vibrant styles, created by founder Cathy Deale, come in 100% all-white super soft cotton fabrics with touches of lace, pintucks, or colored embroidery.

The new designs were inspired by Deale’s 22-year-old daughter who wanted cotton nightwear that was soft and casual, but prettier than shorts and a tank top.    As a result, Jacaranda Living’s new fresh looking cotton nightgowns and pajamas feel cool and soft against the skin.   Each set is simply styled with a little detailing, which is the hallmark of Jacaranda Living’s ladies sleepwear collection, and each piece gets softer and softer with repeated washings.

Although the designs were inspired by her young daughter, Deale says the nightgowns are suitable for all ages.   “There’s something peaceful about sleeping in pure white cotton and this new collection brings out the youthfulness in all women,” she says.  The new launch follows Jacaranda Living’s successful shows at AmericasMart Atlanta, NYNow, the San Francisco Gift show and CurveNY.

Jacaranda Living has also released a new 2014 catalog of fine linens which includes new options for pajamas and waffle bathrobes, in addition to their celebrated nightgowns.

In only 10 years, Jacaranda Living has expanded significantly supplying boutique gift stores across North America. This growth has made a positive impact on the quality of life for these talented South African Zulu women, their families and other global suppliers they’ve introduced.

Fine Linen Manufacturer, Jacaranda Living, Exhibits Its Popular Line of Sleepwear at the Curve NY Show for the First Time

With a decade of experience in fine embroidered bed and bath linens, Jacaranda Living is preparing to showcase its highly successful line of sleepwear at the Curve Lingerie Show in New York City.

Massachusetts-based linen manufacturer, Jacaranda Living, will be exhibiting at the Curve Lingerie Show for the first time this year. The company will be showcasing its popular line of sleepwear during the event which will be held in New York City February 23rd, 24th, and 25th.

Owner Cathy Deale says the massive success of the cotton nightgown line contributed to her decision to attend this year’s show. “Our cotton sleepwear category has grown to be a major part of our business and we keep expanding it so we thought we would try exhibiting at a show aimed at lingerie stores,” says Deale.

Deale designed the line to include both cotton pajamas and nightgowns, with two new short styles for spring and summer which appeal to younger customers. The styles come in all-white with a little lace, pintucks, or colored embroidery. She says the soft feel of the cotton is its biggest selling feature. “The styles are not fussy. They have a little detailing and the cotton gets softer and softer with washing so it becomes a favorite,” says Deale.

Jacaranda Living Launches Its Spin on Ginger Jars

Jacaranda Living Launches It Spin on Ginger Jars

Jacaranda Living, the high-end soft furnishings company, is launching a new collection of embroidered linens, featuring the classic blue Ginger Jar on natural and white palettes. The blue and white Ginger Jars are beautiful décor accents that Jacaranda Living is excited to have added to their collection of bed and bath linens.

Collection, Ginger Jars on Natural Linen

Why the Ginger jar?

Ginger Jars were first introduced by the Chinese as a storage canister for food staples (including ginger) in 221 BC. The different patterns decorating them had different significances. For example, many of the blue and white ones had the character for double happiness and were given as wedding gifts. “We chose the patterns with flowers for our embroidery designs because of our love for flowers at Jacaranda Living!” says founder, Cathy Deale.

The accent pieces add an unexpected and fresh complement to any room. A Tissue Box Cover and Guest Towel featuring the embroidered Ginger Jar can transform a bathroom. The throw pillows scatted on a white couch, or the boudoir on a bed. Choose from the blue and white collection for a crisp, timeless look, or the blue on natural linen that is so admired today.

So, are Ginger Jars part of a trend or are they just one of those beautiful accent items that started out serving a purpose and became a classic and enduring decorating staple? “We think that like the candle, which started out to fill a need for light and now fills our need for ambiance, it’s here to stay!”

Cathy Deale founded the company in 2004 when she introduced the hand-embroidered waffle weave guest towels made in South Africa to retail gift and linen stores in Boston. Since those humble beginnings, Jacaranda Living has grown significantly to make a positive impact on the livelihood of those African women and many more who contribute to our collection.
