Guide to Packing Your Bedroom & Bath Items for Relocation

spacious bedroom

Our bedrooms are our safe havens. They also tend to house many treasured items and closets cluttered with too much stuff. So, packing your bedroom for relocation may feel daunting, especially if you have to deal with a big space. However, there is no need to worry because this guide can help you sort, pack and adequately prepare your bedroom items for moving easily and without too much stress.

The crucial step – declutter your bedroom

Relocation is an excellent opportunity to sort through your items, especially your wardrobe. Leave enough time to get rid of things you no longer need, use, or want. That will make the whole moving process easier, from packing and transportation to unpacking and making your new space tidy from the start. Separate the things you want to keep from those you wish to donate, sell or throw away.

Gather enough packing supplies

If you’ve already sorted and decluttered your stuff, you need to gather enough quality packing supplies. When packing your bedroom for relocation, make sure to have:

  • Enough boxes in a variety of sizes,
  • Mattress covers,
  • Packing tape,
  • Wrapping paper,
  • Shrink-wrap,
  • Paper for writing,
  • Markers and pens,
  • Garbage bags,
  • Cleaning supplies,
  • Tools for disassembling furniture,
  • Moving blankets.

Quality packing supplies will ensure your items are protected during transport.

Pack methodically

When packing for an easy move, take a systematic approach – start packing guest bedrooms first, and then move on to the master bedroom and kids’ bedrooms.

First, you should pack up the least used items (anything you won’t be using until you’re in the new home). To make things easier for yourself, make a list of everything that goes into each box and label them.

Then, pack frequently used items at the very end and, most importantly – don’t forget to pack an essentials bag. This should be an easy-to-identify bag that will cover the first few days after your move. Include the essential clothing, cozy pajamas, and toiletries.

If you want to choose the best technique for packing various bedroom items, consider the following advice:

Wardrobe

Before you pack up your closet, make sure that all your clothes are clean. You probably won’t have enough time to do laundry right after moving. Leave some of your t-shirts as padding to protect your belongings.

Pack your clothing easily by simply placing them in wardrobe boxes. Leave them on the hanger and just quickly transfer them to a closet in your new home when unpacking your bedroom.

You can leave clothing you keep in drawers right there. Just remove the drawer from your dresser, then secure it with wrapping paper and tape.

When packing your bedroom for relocation, declutter your wardrobe and use the right techniques for easy unpacking.

Accessories

If you have any expensive jewelry or other accessories, make sure to pack them in jewelry boxes, secured boxes with compartments, or small cosmetic bags. Then you can group them into one larger bag and place it safely into your car. Have them close by during the moving day to avoid your most valuable items being misplaced, stolen, or lost.

Can’t forget your slippers and bath item essentials!

It would be best if you left your shoes and comfy slippers inside of their original boxes. If you tossed out the original boxes, wrap your shoes in paper and tape them together, or place them in a bag. Just make sure they are not at the bottom where they can be crushed or damaged.

Bedroom furniture

When packing your bedroom for relocation, disassemble anything that can be taken apart. You should put any screws, nuts, and bolts into a bag, label it, and attach it to part of the furniture they belong.

Furniture surfaces should be covered with paper or shrink-wrap as protection from scratches. Larger pieces of furniture can be covered with moving blankets. Wrap furniture legs with leg protectors.

Before packing your rugs, vacuum them and roll them up. Then, secure them with packing tape. You can cover them with shrink-wrap or an old sheet as a layer of extra protection.

To easily pack especially delicate lamps, remove the shades and light bulbs. Wrap the lamp’s base in shrink wrap and cushion it with packing material to prevent shifting in the box. Pack the shade in a separate box, wrapped in paper so that it doesn’t get crushed or torn during transport.

Blankets, linens, and pillows

Wrap your pillows up and use them to protect fragile items when packing.

You can start packing all blankets, sheets, pillows, and pillow covers you won’t need before your move. Leave some blankets and sheets to use as padding for fragile and delicate items. Place your mattress into a mattress bag or box, and it will stay clean and protected.

If you’re renting a storage unit for your belongings, it’s essential to take proper care of your linen. Adequately storing linen, clothing and bedding is vital if you want it to stay safe and clean until you move into your new home. Avoid plastic boxes and plastic bags when packing and storing your fine linens because they can easily retain moisture become moldy. It might be a good idea to place them in a suitcase, breathable containers made of natural materials, or special fabric storage bags.

We hope that this guide to packing your bedroom for relocation will help you speed up the process and decrease stress. Good luck!

Top 5 Reasons To Wear Slippers When You Get Home

When you get home, take your shoes off and put on our comfortable, cozy waffle weave slippers. They are the best! Here’s why it’s important to put on clean slippers and take your shoes off before entering your home.

  1. Protect your health!

Now more than ever, it is crucial to take care of our health. COVID-19 outbreak is a serious threat, and one of the reasons to leave shoes at the front door is to stop the spreading of bacteria and viruses in your home.

If you have small children or pets around the house, they probably spend a lot of time on the floor. By putting on our comfortable slippers and removing shoes before you enter the living room, you keep it clean and bacteria-free. The best way to additionally protect your kids is to get soft indoor booties to keep their feet warm.

  1. Avoid spreading dirt or damaging your floor

Besides preventing harmful bacteria or toxins from entering your home, leaving shoes at the front door will help you keep the dirt off your precious carpet! Another reason is to prevent any damage to the floor. If you wear large boots, they can often catch a few pebbles on the soles. Once you start walking on your hardwood floor, there is a chance it will get scratched. With that in mind, heavy boots off – cotton slippers on!

  1. Maintain clean hygiene

Besides doing everything you can to protect your health and boost your immune system, it is also crucial to keep foot hygiene at a higher level. Wearing shoes all day long will cause an unpleasant smell and sweating. Your feet need some time to relax and breathe.

One of the reasons shoes should be left at the front door is to prevent this issue and take care of your feet.

As soon as you come home, take your shoes off, and give a nice, bubbly bath to your feet. You can even apply a few massage moves to relax your soles and fingers. Feet play a crucial role in our health, so treat them with care.

  1. Show off your favorite embroidered slippers!

Even though the holidays are behind us, there is no reason to stop wearing those awesome vacation slippers you love so much! Many people like to buy colorful slippers with different designs and patterns on them, but no one gets to see them if you wear shoes all day long. Now that we are all working from home, you might as well show off your favorite designs.

  1. Set an example for your children

Kids are like sponges; they learn everything, good or bad. When we see a child who misbehaves, they have probably picked that up from someone close. Parents often unintentionally transfer their bad habits to children.

Children love comfy clothes, introducing the new Zoe dress for your cute princess.

If you wish to raise your kids the right way, make sure to set an example for them. If they see you removing your shoes at the door, they will start doing it themselves. This is an excellent way to teach them proper manners, which may help them in the future. Some cultures take shoe rules very seriously. Set the precedent for them! Shoes off at the front door, slippers on. 🙂

Let’s do a quick summary of the top 5 reasons shoes should be left at the front door:

Spa Scents Made Easy

From aromatherapy candles, to essential oils and room sprays, the scent of a spa is an immediate signal to your brain that its time to relax and revitalize. ScratchMommy recommends the following to ease you into a relaxed state of mind:

5 easy ways to care for your bedroom

We all spend a lot of time in our bedrooms, be it sleeping or checking Facebook on our phones in the dark. That’s why it’s important to know exactly how to care for and maintain your nest. Here are five pro tips to keep your bedroom clean and fresh.

1. Wash your sheets the right way

Bed linens need to be pulled off and washed every one or two week. With cotton sheets, it’s important to use warm water when cleaning, as hot water could shrink some of the fibers. If you have any special embroidery or other delicate flourishes, such as some of our sheets, make sure to read the care instructions.

Some embroidery requires gentle hand washing. In those cases, don’t scrub with a brush or rub parts of the sheets together. Instead soak the material to loosen stains and unwanted smudges.

Chlorine bleach may be too gruff for most bed linens. Instead try an oxygenated bleach for white sheets. Gentleness is the main idea to keep sheets in tip-top shape as long as possible.

2. Seal it up

Make sure to use a vinyl mattress cover to protect against spills or leaks. If given the chance, mattresses will sponge up any mess, including ones from human bodies. These are extremely difficult to clean and it’s much easier to prevent the problem in the first place. The vinyl cover will act as a barrier to keep the mattress unsoiled.

3. Vacuum the bed

You have probably heard from time to time that skin cells and dust mites build up inside the mattress and will double the weight over a decade. That’s actually an urban legend, but even though the dramatic scale is wrong, there is still a real problem with shed skin and dust mites. To help combat the menace, every time you strip or rotate the mattress, pull all materials off the bed and use your vacuum cleaner’s upholstery to clean the top and sides of the mattress.

4. Use a duvet

Comforters are difficult to clean, and their bulk requires a commercial-grade washing machine to avoid compressing the item and leaving pockets unwashed. The comforter will still need to be cleaned now and then, but wrapping it in a duvet cover will keep it much cleaner during the stretches of time between cleanings. Duvets should be cleaned in a similar manner to bed sheets.

5. No plants and animals

Constant contact with human bodies already presents a large amount of exposure to bed linens. There’s no need to add on additional problems with animal contact. Cats and dogs leave dander behind, so if you want a clean bed then you need to banish your pets from the bedroom. Even having plants in the bedroom can create some airborne debris, so keep them out of the room too.

5 DIY Fourth of July party ideas

What better way to celebrate Independence Day than with a red, white and blue themed outdoor party! This year instead of relying on the same flimsy discount store decorations why not try using unique items to make your party stand out.

Patriotic jars

Painted mason jar utensil holders present the perfect opportunity to bring bright colors to your table. Click here for the instructions. The trick is to use painters tape to guide your brush strokes so the dividing lines are sharp and straight.

Flag-themed wreath

If you have a wooden door facing your party area try adorning it with a homemade flag wreath. The basic idea is to tie colorful plastic pieces around a wire frame to make a unique decoration that stands out and can be reliably stored for next year. The instructions are here.

blue starlobster

Red, White and Blue linen napkins

Bring a touch of class to your outdoor party by ditching the cheap paper napkins and instead bring a stack of our blue starfish or red lobster napkins linen napkins. You won’t have to worry about slight breezes blowing them around your yard.

Watermelon stars

This is quick and easy viagra naturel pas cher. Use a star-shaped cookie cutter to punch out pieces from watermelon slices. The watermelon pieces will be a rich patriotic red and the watermelon slices with negative star spaces will also look fetching.

Tie-Dye flag tablecloth

This is an ambitious project, but well worth the effort to make your table the toast of the town. Use white glue to prevent the dye from reaching star-shaped areas in the blue field in the center and surround it with red and white stripes using rubber bands. The full instructions are here.

Jacaranda Living Expands Its Spring 2014 Lines adding New Bath Linen Designs and Cotton Sleepwear in Shorter Styles

As a leader in the industry of fine linens and embroidery, Jacaranda Living is launching its popular nightgowns in shorter lengths and new styles.  The family-owned company has been showcasing its unique brand of refreshing simplicity and elegance during an expanded gift show schedule.

With more than 10 years of experience in handmade and embroidered linens, Jacaranda Living is releasing new cotton nightgowns in fresh and flirty lengths this spring and summer.   The vibrant styles, created by founder Cathy Deale, come in 100% all-white super soft cotton fabrics with touches of lace, pintucks, or colored embroidery.

Jacaranda Living short Cotton Nightie

The new designs were inspired by Deale’s 22-year-old daughter who wanted cotton nightwear that was soft and casual, but prettier than shorts and a tank top.    As a result, Jacaranda Living’s new fresh looking cotton nightgowns and pajamas feel cool and soft against the skin.   Each set is simply styled with a little detailing, which is the hallmark of Jacaranda Living’s ladies sleepwear collection, and each piece gets softer and softer with repeated washings.

Although the designs were inspired by her young daughter, Deale says the nightgowns are suitable for all ages.   “There’s something peaceful about sleeping in pure white cotton and this new collection brings out the youthfulness in all women,” she says.  The new launch follows Jacaranda Living’s successful shows at AmericasMart Atlanta, NYNow, the San Francisco Gift show and CurveNY.

Jacaranda Living has also released a new 2014 catalog of fine linens which includes new options for pajamas and waffle bathrobes, in addition to their celebrated nightgowns.

Embroidered Linens in Duck Egg Blue for the Spring

Jacaranda Living’s founders, Cathy and Martin Deale, grew up in South Africa where they developed an educated respect and passion for the high quality embroidered textiles made by local Zulu women.  Jacaranda Living was established in 2004 to help them expand their market horizons. In only 10 years, Jacaranda Living has expanded significantly supplying boutique gift stores across North America. This growth has made a positive impact on the quality of life for these talented South African Zulu women, their families and other global suppliers they’ve introduced.

In addition to the new sleepwear designs, Jacaranda Living recently launched a  lifestyle blog to address the latest design trends in fine linens and popular seasonal items.  The company continues to offer both wholesale and retail pricing.  While retail pricing may be found on the main website, wholesalers should contact the company directly at info@jacarandaliving.com for approval to gain access to special wholesale pricing.

About Jacaranda Living:  For nearly a decade, Jacaranda Living has been a wholesaler and retailer of fine embroidered waffle and cotton linens for home and spa, as well as table linens, bedding, cotton sleepwear, baby layette and pillows. The company was founded in 2004 and is based in Wellesley, Massachusetts. To find out what Jacaranda Living can do for you, visit JacarandaLiving.com
